WDYT Margins — Privacy Policy

WDYT Margins is a browser extension that lets you save lines you highlight while reading, and add notes, explanations, or deeper analysis to them. Saved items (your "Margins") are stored in your WDYT account so they are available when you write in WDYT.

What we collect

We only collect what you actively choose to save or ask for:

• Highlighted text you select and save, and the note you write or dictate about it.
• Page context for what you saved: the page URL and title, so you can trace a line back to its source.
• Voice recordings you make in the note composer, which are sent for transcription and then discarded. We store the resulting text, not the audio.
• Text you send to "Explain" or "Deep Dive," which is processed to return a definition or a breakdown of the writing.
• Account information from your Google sign-in (email and basic profile), used only to authenticate you into your WDYT account.

We do not collect your browsing history. The extension does not read or transmit page content unless you select text and take an action on it.

How we use it

• To save your highlights and notes to your WDYT account and show them back to you.
• To generate the transcription, explanation, or analysis you request.
• To sign you in.

Your saved highlights may inform how WDYT drafts writing with you, in your own account. We do not use your content to train models for other users.

Where it goes

• Saved items and account data are stored with our infrastructure provider, Supabase.
• Requests for transcription, explanation, and analysis are processed by WDYT's servers (wdyt.co), which use third-party AI providers to fulfill them. Only the specific text you acted on is sent, never whole pages.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not share your content with third parties except the processors above, solely to provide the feature you asked for.
• We do not run background collection, tracking pixels, or analytics on the pages you visit.

Retention and control

Your saved Margins live in your WDYT account until you delete them. Deleting an item removes it. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us.

Permissions, and why

• identity — to sign you into your WDYT account with Google.
• storage — to remember your session so you do not sign in on every page.
• host access (all sites) — so the highlight toolbar can appear on any page you read. The extension only acts on text you select.
• wdyt.co / Supabase — to save your items and fulfill Explain / Deep Dive / transcription requests.
